Kens
5 Boat Rendezvous 2006, May
5-6-7
This event has played out 3 times now. This
year Aquavit was the lead craft. The DSC members assisting as crew were Greg
& Linda H. . Motoring all the way
from Burrard past schools of Dhalls Propose. Used 16 liters of fuel. First
anchorage was Princess cove on Wallace Island. Lots of hiking trails, quiet
anchorage, and the arrival of fine musical captains.
Second anchorage on May 6 th
was Pirates cove A bit narrow to get in but a quiet and safe anchorage.
(Until we got there). Linda tolerated the all male Rendezvous with her joyful
laugh at the antics of the Captains.
Greg served as head chief even after Ken flipped a pot and drowned out
his stove. He also discovered the electric system needed review. Ken has now
replaced a worn out connector plug.

Program the GPS before you take off. Keep good batteries in it. Check
that you actually do have charts of where you are going. Cook outside. Bring a songbook of sea
sshanties. Know Pyladies Rock. Never leave a bag of garbage in the raft you are
towing behind in a 20 kn wind. (Sorry Greg- Thanks for cleaning it up). Aquavit
can go faster than 3 other boats. (Flicker, Danish Folk boat, 30' Alberg )
And can go faster than 8 knots across the Straight. But prefers 7 Knots. The Boats water supply works and did not leak. If you run Gabriola Passage an hour late the wind against tide produces large waves to wash off the cabin roof. Keep the motor up high enough to be dry and low enough to avoid excessive free spinning in the waves. Linda liked the splashing waves part…Greg liked the racing.
